NORDIC SKIERS INVITED TO JOIN GUARD BIATHLON PROGRAM
Nordic skiers interested in subsidizing their income, receiving tuition
assistance and expanding their training opportunities may want to consider
joining the National Guard biathlon program. The National Guard is constantly
looking for young men and women with a successful skiing background who also
want to serve their country.
Top biathletes in the National Guard program receive paid earnings, paid
transportation, meals, housing and equipment. Past biathlon Olympians who
served in the National Guard include Jeremy Teela, Kara Salmela and Dan
Westover.
Membership in the National Guard biathlon program requires one be in good
standing with an Army or Air National Guard unit. This would mean satisfying
a military obligation of one weekend per month and two weeks of annual
training each year. The completion of a multi-week basic training would also
be required.
For information, call Erick Studenicka at (775) 887-7250.

Bill Raitter, often seen participating in Far West races, is a dental
specialist in the Army Guard in Reno and has competed in biathlon races
across the nation while representing the Nevada National Guard.
